There's a few live reviews of Misunderstanding from the last few years but first here's what The Hitsheet had to say in November 2004 (original article) thehitsheet.co.uk (Issue 60) Our support for ESP goes back a long way. The front cover stars from our very first issue are back, with a whole album of great tunes. Misunderstanding shows Alex and Tom White at their best; a laid back vocal with a melody that's so radio friendly it hurts. If it doesn't feature in the next series of Channel 4's Teachers then I'll eat my hat. Alex and Tom are still young enough to have a long successful career ahead of them, having learnt important lessons from their experiences at both db and BMG. There can't be many 20/22 year olds looking for their third deal, but it'll be third time lucky as far as we're concerned. We're convinced that they still have what it takes. With the right label and nurturing, they're more than capable of producing brilliant music, miles ahead of their contemporaries. With time on their side there is no reason why the White boys can't return to the cutting edge top of the indie pop tree. efestivals.co.uk Isle Of Wight 2004: The Brighton based boys play Misunderstanding their new tune, it’s a pop fuelled number with nice harmonies and the crowd get more into this swinging beat. Screaming Tarts Brighton July 2004: The band treated the crowd to several new tracks including the gorgeous Cold World, the catchy Misunderstanding and the politically minded (The) Captain. It's fair to say that if these excellent tracks are anything to go by then the third installment from the ESP will be a must have for every music collection. The new songs portray a fuller, more accessible sound. It's reassuring that the recent troubles with the bands former record company do not deflect from what is apparent to everyone at this show: The ESP have been good in the past, are better in the present and will be amazing in the future. With an improved live show, thrilling songs from all three albums and both the White brothers under the age of 25 we can expect great things from one of Britain's most exciting bands! (main website) Here's some reviews of If That's The Case, Then I Don't Know from The Great Escape Festival 2006. thisisfakediy.co.uk If That's The Case, Then I Don't Know has one of those instant hooks, the kind that twists its way inside your head, unconsciously staying there to only find yourself humming days later... Ian Chambers: The sublime dual guitar / vocal catchiness of If That’s The Case, Then I Don’t Know is the sort of tune that deserves to be released as a future single. |
